What to do in Koh Samui when it rains

Living on a tropical island does have its perks, but what you may not know is that we get A LOT of rain. The rain here comes down in sheets and will usually only last for an hour or two. So, if it does rain during your holiday just know that there are still so many great rainy day activities in Koh Samui.

Just as some background on the weather here, each area of Thailand has different ‘rainy seasons’ so when it’s raining in Bangkok it could be beautifully sunny in the south. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are known as the Gulf Islands and we see much less rain than other parts of Thailand, with our rainy season being much shorter and much later in the year, just a couple of months from October to mid/late December.

Even if you visit Koh Samui outside of these months you may experience the odd day or two of rain which is why I thought I’d share my top rainy day activities, which include activities for foodies, those who just want to relax, those of you who want to get artistic and bring back a souvenir, and anyone who is feeling adventurous.

So if the rain is coming down and you’re looking for something do to check out this list of my favourite rainy day activities in Koh Samui. I’ve also included a handy map thanks to Wanderlog so you can easily locate all of the activities.

Play a game of pool & enjoy a nice cold beer

If all else fails head to a local bar with a pool table, order yourself a nice cold beer or cocktail and play a few games of pool. Many local bars don’t charge for the tables and if they do it’ll only be เธฟ10 (ยฃ0.22) or เธฟ20 (ยฃ0.45).
