🐘 Elephant Sanctuary & Feeding Experience

If meeting elephants is high on your Thailand bucket list (and honestly, how could it not be?), then this ethical elephant sanctuary experience in Koh Samui is a beautiful way to connect with these gentle giants.
This one-hour visit is short but incredibly meaningful. You’ll learn about the elephants, feed them during their mealtime, and watch them interact naturally in a safe, respectful environment. It’s a small group experience too – capped at just 10 people – which makes it even more special.
You’ll get some lovely photo ops, but more importantly, you’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for these beautiful creatures and how they should be treated – with kindness, space, and dignity.
🕒 Duration: 1 hour
♿ Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible
👶 Great for: Families, animal lovers, ethical travellers
👉 Book your elephant sanctuary visit here
💚 A note on elephant welfare:
This sanctuary does not offer elephant rides or bathing activities. Any so-called ‘sanctuary’ that lets you bathe elephants is not prioritising their welfare. Bathing might look fun on Instagram, but it can be incredibly stressful and unnatural for the elephants. Always do your research and choose facilities that genuinely care for the animals, not just the tourists.
You can read about my experience visiting one of the ethical elephant sanctuaries on the island here.

Each zipline offers a new angle of Samui’s wild beauty – keep your eyes peeled for the hidden waterfall as you glide through the treetops.
Once your feet are back on solid ground, head to the Tree Bridge Café, perched 20 metres above the jungle floor, and enjoy a well-earned drink with a seriously epic view.

What to Pack for a Stress-Free Family Trip

When you’re travelling with kids, we all know that a little planning goes a long way. While you’ll find plenty of shops on the island, there are a few family-friendly essentials that are worth packing before you fly. Below are some items to help make your holiday smoother, safer, and a whole lot more fun.
- ☀️ Reef-Safe Kids Sunscreen with Jellyfish & Sealice Protection (£16.00) Specially formulated to protect against sea nasties like jellyfish and sealice.
- 📱 Amazon Fire HD Kids Tablet (Ages 6–12) (£149.99) Books, games, and videos, all in one safe space. Perfect for flights or hotel downtime.
- 🦕 Olaola Hooded Kids Towels (£15.99) Fun, lightweight, and perfect for post-swim snuggles. They come in loads of designs (we’re loving the dinosaur one!) and are ideal for beach or pool days.
- 📸 Waterproof Phone Pouch (Pack of 2) (£9.99) A must-have if you’re planning any boat trips or water sports.
- 🦀 Crab-Shaped Mesh Beach Bag (£6.99) This little bag is perfect for storing beach toys, or even wet swimsuits.
- ✈️ Travel-Friendly Activity Books & Games Flights from Europe are long and tiring, keep little minds busy with activity books and card games:
- Let’s Go Airplane Activity Book (Ages 4–8) (£7.99)
- Origami Kit for Kids (Ages 6–12) (£12.99)
- Children’s Travel Puzzle Book (£5.99)
- And of course… Uno! A family classic and perfect for restaurant waits or rainy nights. (£5.70)
- 🌊 Children’s Water Shoes (£9.00+) Super-comfortable and lightweight swim shoes for children, perfect for water sports or days exploring the beach
💡 Tip: When choosing swimwear for kids (and adults), opt for bright, neon colours. These are far easier to spot in the pool or sea compared to dark or pale shades — this simple choice can make a big difference in an emergency. I’ve included an informative graphic from Alive Solutions for reference.

Final Tips for Travelling Koh Samui with Kids
Koh Samui one of the most family-friendly destinations with gentle beaches, a wide range of activities, and laidback island vibes. It’s a stress-free win for parents and fun for all ages. Here are a few final tips for those of you travelling to Koh Samui with children:
🍽️ Book Restaurants in Advance (Especially during high season)
Many of the restaurants in Koh Samui are incredibly welcoming to families, but during peak travel times (December–April and July–August), it’s a good idea to book ahead to avoid disappointment. If you’re travelling with babies or toddlers, you can also message ahead to request a high chair, just to be safe. Most venues will happily accommodate, but it’s worth checking in advance.
🚕 Getting Around: Use the InDrive App
For taxis, we recommend using the InDrive app. It works just like Uber, you set your pickup point, choose your fare, and confirm, but you pay in cash at the end of the ride. You can also select the vehicle size, which is handy if you’re travelling with a larger family or have luggage. Pro tip: try to carry smaller notes, as drivers may not always have change for large bills.
📅 Plan Ahead for Activities
Samui has so much to offer for families, water parks, wildlife experiences, beach clubs, and cultural adventures. Many of the best tours and activities can book up quickly, especially during school holidays. Booking in advance not only secures your spot, but also helps you plan your days more efficiently around naps, meals, and downtime.
🌴 Ready to Start Planning? 🌴
Whether you’re travelling with toddlers, tweens, or teenagers, Koh Samui is full of family-friendly fun, from beach clubs with kids’ play areas to exciting day trips, adventure parks, and chill sunset vibes.
Unlike some other Thai islands, Koh Samui has a slightly different weather pattern; its driest months often fall between January and September, with short bursts of rain mainly in October and November. Even in the rainy season, there’s usually a good chunk of sun each day, and plenty of indoor or shaded activities to keep the kids busy. Resorts and beach clubs cater to families year-round, so no matter when you visit, you’ll find something fun to do.
If you’re feeling inspired to start planning your family getaway, don’t forget to check out the activity links throughout this post to book your favourites.
