Our favourite restaurants & bars in Patong, Phuket Thailand

For those of you that have been following our latest adventures, you’ll know that we spent one week in Patong, Phuket. It’s full of colour, noise and excitement and is the perfect place to start your Thailand adventure in my opinion.

Why, Patong? I hear you ask. Well, if you want to experience the cuisine, the beach life or the colourful nightlife of Thailand, this is the perfect introduction. Beautiful white sands and crystal clear waters, ice cold beers, the most flavourful and delicious Thai food and some wild nights out, what’s not to love.

So in true, Travel Eat Sleep fashion, we’re going to share our favourite places to eat, drink & party in Patong.

RESTAURANTS

EUROthai

First up is this hidden gem, Eurothai. Secretly tucked away on one of the side streets, it’s a small but cozy, family-run restaurant, that have been dishing up classic Thai & European dishes since 1998.

Open from 11am – 10pm every day and serving up a wide selection of coffees to cocktails, it doesn’t matter if you fancy, breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, you’ll be sure to find something to your taste.

Each and every dish we tried was full of colour and flavour, but it has to be said that the massaman curry here is one of the very best I’ve tried in Thailand, silky coconut broth and perfectly cooked potatoes, absolutely delicious.

So, if you just want a break from all the hustle and bustle, or maybe you’re looking for a quieter more romantic setting, definitely add this to your list of restaurants to visit in Patong. You won’t be disappointed.

BLUE BEACH CAFE AND RESTAURANT

We stumbled across Blue Beach Cafe & Restaurant completely by accident, whilst trying to shelter from a pretty epic tropical storm. This outdoor venue sits beachside and offers the most amazing views, if you stick around until the evening you’ll be graced with some breathtaking sunsets and on select days of the week, a saxophone performance.

They only opened in March 2022 but you wouldn’t know it. The service is excellent, the beers are ice cold and the food is delicious. Definitely not the very cheapest you’ll find on Patong beach but far from the most expensive.

We both picked a classic Thai dish washed down with an icy Chang beer when we visited, but they also offer tacos, burgers, small plates and a variety of smoothies and cocktails. Safe to say there’s most definitely something for everyone.

TROPICA BUNGALOWS & RESTAURANT

I recently posted a blog on Tropica Bungalows & Restaurant which you can check out here if you missed it. We stayed there for the first week of our Thailand adventure and we actually loved it.

The restaurant has some mixed reviews online, but in our opinion the food here is some of the best we ate whilst in Patong. Admittedly we only ate Thai cuisine, so can’t vouch for the Western dishes, but everything we tried was fresh and delicious.

We munched our way through red, green, panang & massaman curries, super spicy papaya salads, fried yellow noodle dishes and of course a variety of fried rice dishes. Honestly they were all incredible, they will always ask if you ‘want spicy’ and so be careful here as spicy, really means spicy! For us, it’s the hotter the better but you’ve been warned.

I’d say grab yourself a booth, admire the decorative lighting and order your favourite Thai food. My favourites were the creamy panang curry and the Tom Sam (papaya salad), Carl loved the fried noodles.

SAVOEY SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

That’s right, we went to the Savoey, I mean, not the Savoy, but this place has it’s own style and charm. It’s a large and bustling restaurant just past the beach end of Bangla Road with a beautiful display of fresh fish, lobsters, prawns and crabs right out front, as so many seafood restaurants in Thailand do.

We headed here one Friday night and it was really very busy with large tables of families celebrating birthdays and smaller tables of friends enjoying cocktails. We managed to grab one of the last ‘unreserved’ tables right by the live music booth, which has to be said was more karaoke vibes than A Night with Adele, but it was entertaining.

The menu here is vast, but mostly as you can opt for such a large selection of different fish and seafood as well as all the classic Thai dishes. We selected the seabass with chilli, ginger and soy, which was phenomenal, the fish was cooked so beautifully, it was soft and flakey, the sauce was savoury and spicy, just amazing. We went for a simple side of rice and also morning glory, which if you haven’t tried is an amazing leafy green vegetable with a similar texture to spinach or chard, which is cooked with chilli and garlic, so tasty, definitely give it a go.

For such a large restaurant they’ve really nailed the atmosphere, and the food is pretty damn good too.

MOLLY’S TAVERN

I know, I know, but look, the week we arrived it just so happen to be St Patricks Day and I can’t deny my Irish roots a cheeky pint of Guinness on the 17th March.

It’s definitely not the cheapest place in Patong but they do have some nice happy hour deals that make it feel more reasonable, plus if you like a cocktail you’ll be bound to find your favourite on the menu here, all the classic plus some signatures such as the Shamrock Shaker.

And if like us you’re gagging for a homecooked roast then head down on a Sunday for a selection of meats and all the trimmings even a Yorkshire pudding all for 350 baht! They were kind enough to switch out the meat for a veggie pie on mine, which was appreciated, I mean don’t get me wrong I love roast potatoes, but a plate full of potatoes and vegetables isn’t quite the same.

BARS & LIVE MUSIC

DOLPHIN BAR

Another rainy day find. A completely bonkers place, filled with flags, football shirts, tons of TVs and a pool table or two, plus some of the loveliest bar girls in Patong. Oh they’ll hustle you alright, but they’re nice about it.

Carl found his new favourite game of luck – the 2 cups, 12 dice game – #iykyk and somehow he loses every time. Still, he has a unlimited supply of icy beers and can watch every type of sport known to man, so this one is for him really and any other pool loving, gamblers who love a cold beer and a bit of footie on the telly.

Just don’t ring the bell!

THE STAR LIVE MUSIC & BAR

The famous Bangla Road in Patong has numerous bars & clubs but this is easily our favourite venue. Live music every night, DJs, musicians, fantastic singers and even just a little bit of comedy thrown in.

It’s a loud, colourful, neon, hub of fun. The servers are having as much fun as the performers and serve drinks straight to your table, everything from cold beers, to cocktails in buckets, you can’t help but have a good time.

PATONG BEACH

Just a special little mention to Patong beach and all the wonderful people who work there, managing the sunbeds, taking drinks orders and offering a friendly smile or a chat. It’s a beautiful beach, lots going on so perfect people watching spot.

It costs 200baht for two sunbeds and an umbrella, equivalent to around £4.50 (as of writing). Great value for a day at the beach in my opinion. And once the sun has set and you head home, don’t forget to stop off by the police station opposite Bangla Road where you can join a daily dance class, full of happy faces and fantastic moves.
